Are Male Cats More Affectionate Than Females?

There's no proof that any sex of cat is more affectionate than the other, and I wish people would stop saying this. Instead, the proper thing to say is that a specific breed is more affectionate than the other. This is something I could debate on, but the whole cat sex related to how affectionate they are I will never buy.

I believe that it's how a kitten is raised, and not their sex or breed, that determines how affectionate they are; the fact that cats, just like us, each have their own personalities. I have 3 cats, two males and one female; I've had over 7 cats my whole life. Two of them, Ninja and Jude, are Persian cats and the other, Major Tom, is just a regular street cat we found at our garage. We found him at around 2-3 weeks of age, abandoned by his momma. Thank god our pitbull was properly socialized and was actually taking care or this wandering stray.

Anyway, all three of the cats are affectionate and love sleeping on our laps. They are also equally wary of strangers, and will not go near them until they get used to them. But people they trust, they will always warm up to. Ninja is so affectionate she starts yowling if we don't let her in our bedroom at night; she sleeps on my knee while I read a book. If that's not affection I don't know what is! Of course they're cats, so..she could just be using me as a pillow :) Just kidding.

From my experience of owning cats for more than 20 years I have to say that their attitude when they grow up depends mostly on the first 4 months of their lives. Ninja for one HATES baths, while the two boys (Major Tom and Jude) don't mind. Tom even seems to like it when I put him in the tub. I made sure Tom had baths daily when he was still a kitten. Back then he made sure my hand knew he hated baths.

Great hub! I have had both male and female cats and they all had different personalities, but I think it is all goes back to how they are treated. Just a thought. I vote this up. =)

Yes, that's definitely true from my experiences as well. Dogs on the other hand are mostly always affectionate, and they aren't shy about letting your face know :)
